Workshop Outline

Friday evening will be a time for getting acquainted with one another, and Saturday morning will include an overview lecture on the vicissitudes and options of pursuing an art. The bulk of workshop time will consist of group participants sharing their stories, clarifying their objectives, and generating strategies, including the development of support networks, to implement and sustain their goals.


About the Workshop Leader

Paul Watsky, Ph.D., ABPP is a licensed clinical psychologist with over thirty years’ experience, an analyst member of the CG Jung Institute of San Francisco, and a widely published poet, whose debut collection, Telling The Difference (Fisher King Press) appeared in 2010. Before becoming a psychologist he taught English literature full time as an Assistant Professor at San Francisco State University, and has continued to teach and lecture through the public programs of the CG Jung Institute and various other organizations.


Workshop Schedule

Friday PM: 7:30 to 9:30: Introduction of participants, to be followed by discussion of what they want to achieve in the workshop.


Saturday   9:00 AM to 11:00 AM: Lecture on career issues and challenges in the creative arts.


Saturday 11:00 AM to Noon: General group discussion of lecture material.


Saturday   1:00 PM to 3:00 PM: Small group format involving written exercises

                 (e.g., their visions of a career in the arts), followed by discussion.


Saturday   3:00 PM to 5:00 PM: Large group sharing of small group experience.


Sunday     9:00 AM to 10:00 AM: Write-up, with instructor coaching, of individual

                 participants’ action plans.


Sunday   10:00 AM to 11:00 AM: Small group sharing and discussion of action plans.


Sunday   11:00 AM to 12:00 AM: Large group review of the weekend, final Q & A,

               evaluations completed, farewell. 




About the Location


Inverness, CA is located in Marin County, about 40 miles northwest of San Francisco. The town, a popular weekend hiking and gastronomic destination, is bounded on three sides by the Point Reyes National Seashore and on the fourth by Tomales Bay. B & B and motel lodgings are available. It is also within commuting range for participants who prefer not to stay overnight. The workshop will meet in a remodeled century-old house on a large, quiet lot.
